This policy explains what information Acc Mataikan collects when you visit acc.mataikan.com, why it is collected, how long it is kept, and what control you have over it. It is written to describe what this site actually does rather than to cover every possibility, and it is updated when the site changes.
The short version: this site collects very little. It runs no analytics platform, it does not build visitor profiles, and it does not sell data to anyone. Most visitors can read the entire site without giving us any personal information at all.
Information You Give Us Directly
Comments. If you leave a comment on an article, we collect the name, email address, and optional website address you enter in the comment form, along with the comment itself. WordPress also records your IP address and browser user agent string as part of its spam prevention.
The comment form includes an optional checkbox that saves your name, email, and website in cookies on your own device so you do not have to retype them. This is entirely optional and is off unless you tick it.
Contact form. If you use our contact page, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent to us by email. These submissions are not stored in the website database. They live in our email account and are retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
We do not run a newsletter, we do not have user accounts for readers, and we do not ask for payment details anywhere on this site.
Information Collected Automatically
Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard access logs. These typically include your IP address, the pages requested, timestamps, referring page, and browser user agent. They are generated by the server infrastructure, used for security and troubleshooting, and retained according to our host retention schedule.
What we do not collect. This site currently runs no analytics platform. There is no Google Analytics, no Jetpack Stats, and no equivalent tracking script. We do not know which individual pages you visited, how long you stayed, or where you went next.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. This site uses very few.
- Comment cookies. Set only if you leave a comment and tick the box asking us to remember your details. They expire after one year.
- Ad management cookies. The site uses ad placement software that can set cookies to control how often advertisements are shown to the same visitor. These are functional rather than tracking cookies.
- Advertising cookies. Where third-party advertising is displayed, the advertising network may set its own cookies. This is described in the advertising section below.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not prevent you from reading anything on this site.
Advertising
This site may display advertising served by third-party networks, including Google AdSense. Where advertising is served, the network operates independently of us and follows its own privacy policy rather than this one.
Advertising networks commonly use cookies and similar technologies to limit how often an advertisement is shown, to measure whether it was seen, and in some cases to show advertisements based on your previous visits to other websites. Google explains its practices and provides opt-out controls through its own advertising settings, and you can also opt out of personalised advertising from participating networks through industry opt-out pages.
We do not pass your name, email address, or comment content to advertising networks. Advertising has no influence on what we publish.
Third Parties and External Content
Our hosting provider processes all site traffic and therefore has access to server-level information as described above.
WordPress.org assets. Standard WordPress loads a small emoji support script from wordpress.org servers, which involves a request from your browser to that domain.
Avatars. If avatar images are displayed alongside comments, they may be requested from the Gravatar service using a hashed version of the commenter email address.
Outbound links. Our articles link to external sites such as building code bodies, industry associations, and government agencies. Once you follow a link away from acc.mataikan.com, this policy no longer applies and the destination site handles your data under its own terms.
How Long Information Is Kept
Approved comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies remain readable in context. You can ask us to delete a comment you left, and we will.
Contact form emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with the matter raised, then deleted.
Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider standard schedule, which is typically a matter of weeks rather than years.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding personal information we hold about you:
- To ask what personal information we hold and receive a copy of it
- To ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
- To ask us to delete information, including comments you have left
- To object to or restrict certain processing
- To withdraw consent where processing relies on consent
Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under data protection law. California residents have comparable rights, including the right to know what is collected and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly defined.
To make any request, use our contact page. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity before acting on a deletion request.
Children
This site is written for adults planning work on their homes. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. We keep the platform and its components updated and limit administrative access. No website can promise perfect security, and we do not claim to, but we do not hold sensitive categories of data such as payment details or identity documents.
Changes to This Policy
When the site changes in a way that affects this policy, for example if analytics or advertising are added or removed, the policy is updated and the date at the top of this page changes with it. Significant changes will be noted on the page rather than made quietly.
